Are you asking yourself, “Do I have enough time or energy to devote to a chorus like Westosha Lakes?” You’re not alone. Many of us asked that very same question when we considered joining. The following list will show the events and time commitments that will help you determine if you want to join WLC.
Chorus Activities
- Rehearsals: We rehearse every Thursday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Occasionally there is extra time required.
- Regional Contest: Each spring (April/May) we compete against other choruses in Region 22. During our weekend stay, we also arrange a chorus dinner.
- Retreat/Coaching: In January/February we have an overnight stay in preparation for contest. This involves bringing in a coach who helps us to improve our sound and look. Coaches have been brought in at other times as well to work on choreography.
- Cabaret: In the fall we organize a show; this is our major fundraising performance of the year.
- Community Performances: We are hired to perform for the community and private venues based on our availability.
- Social Gatherings: Each year we organize a variety of social gatherings, which have included an annual Christmas party, Installation Banquet, a summer picnic, and misc. gatherings. In many cases, there is a fee involved for meals.
- Regional Schools: In September and January, Region 22 organizes educational “school” which all chorus members are invited to attend. There is an overnight stay and registration fee involved.
- IES/International Competition: SAI (Sweet Adelines International) hosts two events in the United States, where regional quartets as well as small and large choruses go to compete. There are overnight stays, travel, and other fees involved with these optional events.
